a news discovery tool...
govTracker is a news discovery tool for finding news articles about specific governmental entities - over 600 congressional committees, federal agencies, and political party organizations. Plus news on federal contracts and grants.
govTracker news results are not only highly targeted and relevant, they can be easily cross-searched against a variety of other topics of interest. This ability to construct accurate, instantaneous groupings of news articles can bring to light "hidden" relationships you may not have been aware of - it is the essence of news discovery.
govTracker is available through Apple's App Store for your iPhone or iPod Touch, with a separate version for iPad. Your searches are conducted real-time via the device's internet connection, so you always get the latest results.
a different kind of search...
How is govTracker different from traditional news searches and aggregators? Traditional search engines find articles about topics based just on matching text from your search query to text in an article. You get plenty of results that way, along with plenty of irrelevant "stuff" to wade through.
Our govTracker app instead uses an object-based search engine that matches search parameters with the meta-data of individual news articles. This way, only articles that contain the exact "object" being searched for make it into the results. These objects are further organized into "sets" by this proprietary search engine, which allows for instant cross-searches against other topics of interest. These groupings are the "killer feature" of govTracker. Real discovery comes from finding things you would not have known to look for.
Traditional search engines force you to know (or guess) what you're looking for before you start your search. Do you always know exactly what to type in that search box? In contrast, govTracker's advanced meta-data categorizations have already mapped out the deep unseen relationships, so you can quickly find what you need to know, before you knew to look for it. This is a significant advancement in search technology, now publicly available to you in the palm of your hand.
a global reach...
Leveraging Llesiant technology, govTracker gives you access to over 25,000 publications from around the globe - including more than 11,000 State and Federal Government News Sources.
Each content source, from the New York Times to the Smallsville Gazette, has its particular perspective and scope. But to Llesiant's meta-data processing engines they all look the same, as all their articles are equally sliced and diced - examined and dissected - and their constituent parts categorized and weighted for relevancy - all to allow you to instantly cross-search against topics of interest to you.
When perusing your search results, you may find yourself visiting the web sites of specialty or local news sites - places you would have never thought to look for your gov. Such is the wonder of the internet, and the power of govTracker.
application features
govTracker is built upon Llesiant technology, which is currently in use at federal agencies, the department of defense, congressional offices, and major US corporations and law firms - helping their staff to keep track of issues that matter to them. Now that power is available to you, to help you discover how our government works in real-time.

Note: Version 1.0 of govTracker for iPad shipped with some features temporarily missing - namely bookmarks, favorites, and in-article highlighting. With the first release, we took full advantage of the iPad's increased size and capabilites, by reconfiguring the screen layouts and user workflow. The app is now much easier to use, and much more pleasureable. However, these features did not make it back into the product, but they will be added as a free update to all current customers in the next version.
* The web is a tricky place. Not all article web pages will download and save properly -
it depends on how the publisher constructs each page.
In cases of ill-behaved web sites, bookmarking the URL or reloading the article in Safari will still work.
